Inspecting an element
Clicking a node in the live preview, reading the rules that produced it, and getting to the one you can change.
This is the part of FEWD Studio that is different from an editor with a preview bolted onto it.
Inspect or Browse
Above the preview, two words: Inspect and Browse.
Inspect — a click selects the element you clicked and reports its styles.
Browse — a click goes through to the page. Follow a link, open a menu, work a form, scroll a carousel to the slide you need to look at.
You will want both within the same minute, which is why it is a toggle in words rather than an icon that has to be armed and then means something only if you remember arming it. FEWD remembers which you chose.
Hold Alt — Option on a Mac — to let one click through without switching.
The toggle shows for a framework page, and sits where Creative Mode’s Component / Full HTML toggle sits, the two never being needed at once. In Creative Mode inspecting is off, because clicking already selects the node.
What you get back
Every rule the browser says matched that element, in the order they applied, each with the file it was written in.
Not a computed dump. The rules, as they exist in your files, so you can see which one is winning and why.
Getting to the rule
Rules that can be pinned down to one place in one file are editable, from the Styling panel.
A rule that cannot be pinned down unambiguously is shown locked, with the reason said plainly — and the file is one click away, for the coding pane to handle instead. FEWD would rather tell you it cannot safely edit something than guess at which of three matching rules you meant.
The other direction
It works in reverse too. A selector in the stylesheet highlights what it is genuinely matching on the page — which is the fastest way to discover that a rule you have been carefully editing for ten minutes is hitting nothing at all.
Working alongside AI
FEWD Studio is built for a workflow where some of the code was written by a model.
When something looks wrong, clicking it, seeing the rule responsible and fixing it is considerably faster than describing the problem in prose and hoping for a better attempt. And it leaves you knowing what changed.
For the times when going back to the model is the right move, there are prompt snippets: AI prompts and generated files.
