Preferences

Every setting, what it changes, and the handful worth going and turning on straight away.

Four tabs, from the preferences icon on the bottom bar.

Functionality

Auto-connect index file — opening a project connects its index file without being asked.

Add content-container to section div — new sections come with an inner container.

Check for updates — see Updates.

Name icons on the bottom bar when hovered — labels on the icon buttons. Worth turning on for a week when you are new.

Page navigator & fields — the page navigator and the collection entry fields panel. Off by default.

Check for changes on opening a project — the git check described in Terminal and git.

Preview on your network — off by default, so the dev server FEWD starts is reachable only from your own computer. Turn it on to open the site from a phone on the same network; Windows may ask to allow it through the firewall. See Security in FEWD Studio.

Manual save — the coding panes wait for you to press save rather than writing as you type. It does not affect the entry fields panel, which never autosaves.

Operations bar — which side the project panel’s tab strip lives on.

Layout

Which side each panel sits on, and which are docked:

  • Structure panel — left or right
  • Project panel docked and which side
  • Styling in its own panel — takes Styling out of the Inspector’s tabs and gives it a column, with its own side and width
  • Sort collapsed panels to edges — keeps minimised panes out of the middle

Interface

Display

  • Contrast — Normal, High, Ultra
  • Smooth interface — the gradient behind the panels: Subtle, Medium, Strong
  • Motion speed — Fast, Medium, Slow
  • Structure depth — indentation or depth dots in the tree
  • Structure labels — name and class, name only, or class only

Icons — icon size: Default or Large.

Typography

  • Label size — Default through XX-Large
  • Interface size — Default through XX-Large; panels and modals grow with it, as do the project tree and the inserts list
  • Editor size — the coding panes’ own type, Default through XX-Large

Interface size and editor size are separate deliberately. Wanting bigger code without a bigger interface is the common case, and the reverse happens too.

Colours — panel, border, text, highlight, accent and preview background, with Reset colours to put them all back.

Panels

Panel Visibility — hide panes you do not use: Selector CSS, Globals, Assets, Opening project.

Hidden panels can be re-enabled here at any time, and a hidden panel reappears on its own if the app needs it.

Your licence, your device, the GitHub account you are signed in with, and releasing it. See Your licence and your devices.

Worth changing first

If you are new: turn on Name icons on the bottom bar when hovered.

If you are on a large display: Interface size → Large and Editor size → Large.

If you came from VS Code and the instant writing makes you uneasy: Manual save.
